Islington Town Hall is the place I’ve photographed more weddings than anywhere else. Well over 100 at this point.
And honestly, I still love shooting there.
It’s a brilliant wedding venue - busy, lively, and full of character. The staff are genuinely lovely, the atmosphere in the building is always buzzy, and it’s one of the most photogenic town halls in London.
why Islington Town Hall works so well for wedding photos
The building just works for photography. There’s constant movement, great light in the right places, and a sense that something is always happening.
Because I’ve been there so many times, I know every room and space inside the building. I know where the light falls at different times of day, where to do the couple portraits quickly and efficiently.
That familiarity means things stay relaxed. No wandering around looking for spots. No guesswork.
Stepping outside - upper street and beyond
One of the big advantages of getting married at Islington Town Hall is what’s right outside the doors.
Upper Street gives you urban grandeur and energy straight away, and within a short walk there are loads of great options depending on the feel you want:
Camden Passage for something a bit quieter and more intimate
Highbury Fields if you want space and greenery
Regent’s Canal for a relaxed, slightly off-beat feel
Screen on the Green for something iconic and very Islington
the grand back streets around the town hall with their town houses and iconic, grand London-ness.
Because I know the area so well, I can suggest places quickly and work around crowds, weather and timing without it becoming a big production.
A very Islington kind of wedding day
Weddings at Islington Town Hall tend to feel lively, personal and unforced. Friends spilling out onto Upper Street. Drinks nearby. People hugging on the steps. It all lends itself really well to natural, observational photography.
That’s what I focus on - capturing the energy, the small interactions, and the feeling of the day, rather than turning it into a photoshoot.
