35mm film wedding photography

35mm film is known for its distinctive colour, grain and texture, which can give wedding photographs a nostalgic, timeless quality.

But I don't use film (I explain why in this blog). Instead, I shoot digitally to achieve a similar look, often using a Retropia lens and 35mm grain profiles in Adobe Lightroom. This allows me to combine the aesthetic qualities of film with the reliability and flexibility of a digital workflow.

Look at these examples of a 35mm colour wedding and a 35mm black and white wedding that I've photographed. I think only a very trained eye can tell it's actually digital.

It works out a LOT cheaper for you as a client. If I was to shoot on film, I would have to pass all the cost of the film itself (£15 per roll, and I'd need to buy at least 30 rolls for a full day wedding!), as well as the cost of developing and scanning the film.
