I photograph a lot of weddings at Lambeth Town Hall, and it helps that I live literally one minute’s walk away. I’ve lived in Brixton for over 20 years, so this part of south London feels completely familiar to me. I know the building, the light, the timings, and the surrounding streets instinctively, which makes a real difference on a busy wedding day.
Lambeth Town Hall is a great ceremony venue. It’s smart without feeling stiff, central without being anonymous, and it works just as well for small weekday weddings as it does for larger celebrations. The ceremony rooms are bright and well proportioned, and because I’ve photographed weddings here many times, I know where to stand without being intrusive and how to work quickly when time is tight.
Wedding photos around Brixton
One of the big advantages of getting married at Lambeth Town Hall is how many good photo locations are nearby. Because I know Brixton like the back of my hand, I can suggest portrait spots that suit your pace and your personalities.
If you want greenery, Brockwell Park is an obvious choice, with open views, trees, and quiet corners. Rush Common and Windmill Gardens are also great for something calmer and closer. For couples who prefer an urban feel, Brixton has loads of character - Electric Avenue, Brixton Village, Market Row, Coldharbour Lane, the Ritzy, the Bovril building, Pop Brixton, and the railway arches all offer strong backdrops without feeling forced.
I’m always conscious of keeping portraits relaxed and efficient, so you’re not disappearing from your guests for ages.
