The Lordship Pub, east dulwich wedding photographer
I love town hall and pub weddings. They’re about people, atmosphere and good timing - not long photo sessions or elaborate set-ups. The Lordship Pub in East Dulwich is one of my favourite places for that kind of day.
It sits just off Lordship Lane, right in the middle of a proper South London neighbourhood. The murals near the pub add colour and texture to group shots and couple portraits. A few doors down, the retro fish and chip shop - with its bold red frontage and old-school signage - is unexpectedly brilliant in photos. It’s graphic, playful and unmistakably local. You don’t need to manufacture interesting backdrops here. They’re already part of the street.
I’ve photographed full-day weddings at the Lordship, both in the upstairs lounge and in the barn. The upstairs lounge works well for intimate ceremonies with windows along one side bringing in plenty of natural light, although back lighting is something I have to be mindful of. The barn is absolutely lovely, although quite dark, and it really does feel like you’re having a country ban wedding. Because I know both spaces well, I understand where to stand, how the light shifts through the day, and how to work around staff and guests without interrupting what’s happening.
Some couples hold their ceremony at Southwark Register Office (see my separate Southwark Register Office portfolio) - and then travel to the Lordship for the reception. It’s a short bus ride and an easy transition from formal ceremony to pub celebration.
I live in Brixton, also a short bus ride away. If you’re planning a wedding at the Lordship Pub and want an experienced South London based wedding photographer who knows the venue inside out, get in touch.
